August 2, 2022 - National Night Out - Washington Heights - District 2 Vilma Leake Commissioner

2022 ARPA Strategic – Empower people, providers, and partners with health care information – Increase support for artists and the organizations that support them in the community

We partnered with Mecklenburg County Health Department/COVID-19, Johnson C. Smith University – Advancing Health Literacy/COVID-19, Mecklenburg County Park & Recreation Department, Historic West End Neighborhood Association (Mentoring Initiative), Charlotte Area Fund and OnCall Mobile Medical and Wellness was e present to offer COVID vaccines. We screened the film “Remember Me: The Mahalia Jackson Story” which detailed her battle with Diabetics.

2022 ARPA Strategic – “Invest more resources in closing the digital divide in our community faster through efforts in place now (8E) and Target workforce development initiatives on skilled trades, STEM careers, or other industries with difficulties connecting workers with employment opportunities”
We conducted our Coding/Gaming program to empower homeless children living in the hotels on Sugarcreek Dr.. We partnered with the non-profit House of Champions who helped with recruitment. Student worked as teams to create and design 4 games that was presented in class and at graduation.

JUNE 23 - 26, 2022 12th ANNUAL CHARLOTTE BLACK FILM FESTIVAL - District 3 George Dunlap Commissioner

2022 ARPA Strategic – Increase support for artists and the organizations that support them in the community  –   

 For 12 years we have been supporting content creator and media artist with our annual festival. As the largest film festival for African Americans in the Carolinas COVID -19 affected our capacity to empower and reach those we serve. The ARPA grant allowed us to expand our programming for an in-person festival making this our best year to date.( testimonies  coming)


JUNE 13 - JUNE 17, 2022 STEAM SUMMER CAMP I - District 2 Vilma Leake commissioner

2022 ARPA Strategic – Invest more resources in closing the digital divide in our community faster through efforts in place now (8E) and Target workforce development initiatives on skilled trades, STEAM careers, or other industries with difficulties connecting workers with employment opportunities. 
 
Our first Summer Camp taught students the elements of Pitching, Scriptwriting, Acting and videography. The final product were 2 short films written, produced by the students.


June 19, 2022 Juneteenth Community Film Screening - The Ritz at Washington Heights - District 2 Vilma Leake commissioner District 2

2022 ARPA Strategic – Increase support for artists and the organizations that support them in the community. 

This is where we take the festival to the community by showcasing the works of local filmmakers during Juneteenth weekend. It bring us great joy to re-establish programming in the Ritz at Washington heights a location that was once a segregated movie theater.


MAY 2022 ARPA Programming

May 23, 2022 - Filmmakers Virtual Meet & Greet - 122 Artist ( Actors, Directors, Writers, Crew)

2022 ARPA Strategic – Increase support for artists and the organizations that support them in the community. 
 We had over 122 Artist sign-in to the Pre-festival event. This is where we Introduce our official selections and allow introductions and networking our the filmmakers and their team.
